Discovering Alor Setar

I was in Alor Setar since late last night. We pushed of from Kuala Lumpur at the height of Friday evening rush hour traffic, an hour before sundown. Most of the journey, right from Jalan Duta Bus Terminal, all the way to Titigajah was raining. Not the drizzle rain but moonsoon like torrential downpours.

Right: The icon of the town, Masjid Zahir

This morning, I was in the heart of Alor Setar, rediscovering the town. Unlike in February/March when I was last here, this trip I had more 'R & R' time.

It was exactly as I left it, six months ago. All the warmth and cosy feeling is still there. Alor Setar is now a town I have acustomed to and feels a lot like home.

Left: Another icon, the old Police station and the Telekom tower in the background

I have a feeling I will be here, more often since March. And I did.

We had our midnite meal (pre sahur) at Yasmeen Pokok Ceri (infront of the old hospital).

I have been wanting to hv this Mee Abu BUT even during the 3 weeks during the Jerlun campaign, no one was free enough to take me there!

I must do this. Thanks for reminding.

Kokdiang Pasemboor was outstanding!

A little bit to rich for me, especially when one of the ingredients is beef.

Yes, Alor Setar is nice place to be. The first time when I was there was in 1981, when my father had to do some work. We stayed what today is Hotel Samila.

It is almost the same, after 27 years.
